Cartagena, Colombia
In this field trip participants will learn about the bird diversity of Colombia and Latin America, being in touch with different landscapes and hundreds of bird species.
Aviario Nacional in Cartagena, is a conservation organization with one of the most representative exhibitions of avifauna in natural environments in Colombia. It was created to promote knowledge about Colombian biodiversity, its sustainable use and responsible management through animal welfare practices.
With a total area of 7 hectares, 190 species of birds and about 2000 specimens, the Aviary is leader in research for the conservation of the neotropical avifauna in Latin America. It is also a world reference in the study and management of birds in captivity and in their natural environment.
The participants of this field trip will have the opportunity to observe this unique and wonderful collection of birds from Colombia and Latin America. They will enjoy three ecosystem environments and 21 exhibitions divided into large immersion aviaries, radial aviaries, swamps and lakes, through various ecological walking trails. Different landscapes, with a huge number of plants and water environments, will allow the participants to appreciate a great diversity of species.
